Apple unveils Apple Watch Series 9—here’s what’s new

Apple has held its pre-recorded “Wonderlust” event, and one of the announcements was the new Apple Watch Series 9 with some interesting new features.

The wearable device offers the following features:

  • A new wrist gesture lets you double-tap by tapping your index finger and your thumb twice. you can use it to stop a timer, answer the call, scroll through widgets and more.
  • This works by combining inputs from the accelerometer, gyroscope and optical heart rate sensors, with a little help from machine learning.
  • Apple’s S9 chip gives the Apple Watch Series 9 a big boost in terms of performance. Apple says the chip has 5.6 billion transistor and includes a 30 faster GPU and a new flour-core Neural Engine for  faster machine learning tasks
  • Apple mentioned the same “all-day battery life” as before.
  • Siri can now work offline on the Apple Watch, allowing it to respond much faster to queries than before
  • Dictation on the new watch is 20 percent faster, too
  • You can now access your Health data with Siri
  • The new second-generation ultra wide band U2 chip powers faster, more reliable device tracking in the Find My app
  • Media suggestions when close to the HomePod automatically appear on the Apple Watch
  • The Retina display now goes up to 2000 nits, double the brightness of Series 8
  • Available in starlight, silver, midnight, PRODUCT(RED) and a new pink color option
  • Starts at $499
