AirPods Pro 2 firmware update version 6A305 released

Just last week, Apple released a minor bug fix firmware update for both models of the AirPods Pro 2 (specifically, both the ones with the Lightning charging case and the USB-C charging case). Now one week later, Apple has released a second firmware update for the same AirPods Pro 2 models.

The latest firmware, dubbed version 6A305, comes one week after the release of version 6A303.

AirPods & AirPods Pro firmware updates aren’t typically as frequent as updates for the iPhone or iPad, which is to be expected given these device’s simplicity compared to modern-day smartphones and tablets. Less hardware simply means there’s less room for errors that can cause bugs, glitches, or unexpected operation.

Nevertheless, firmware version 6A305 appears to bring “Bug fixes and other improvements,” according to Apple’s online support page entitled About firmware updates for AirPods.

It’s worth noting that this update isn’t available for non-Pro AirPods, nor is it intended for the AirPods Max.

Apple doesn’t specify exactly what bugs it has squashed in this update, or what improvements it has brought to the table. We can only speculate that it improves Bluetooth connectivity, sound quality, and the expected operation of the device, as no new features have been announced.

Installing AirPods & AirPods Pro firmware updates isn’t a straightforward process like updating an iPhone or iPad. While you can view the firmware version that your AirPods Pro 2 are running by visiting Settings → Bluetooth and tapping on the information button beside your AirPods Pro 2 in the device list, you won’t find a button to jump-start the firmware update:

Instead, Apple says that AirPods & AirPods Pro firmware updates happen automatically when they’re charging and in Bluetooth range of one of your Apple devices that is connected to Wi-Fi, such as an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Users who don’t have one of these, perhaps because they’re using a competitor’s smartphone or tablet, can have their AirPods Pro 2 firmware manually updated by visiting an Apple Store.
