
Cometh a holiday season, cometh the nostalgia for a Charles M. Schulz TV special.
While A Charlie Brown Christmas reigns supreme as the stand out cartoon classic, there’s a special place in many Peanuts fans hearts for the 1966 special It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.
Telling the tale of Linus’s night alone in a pumpkin patch, while its traditional annual airing on linear TV has sadly slipped from the schedules, the great news for anyone wanting to watch the Halloween stalwart is that you can stream the special via the new home of Charlie and Snoopy’s adventures, Apple TV Plus.
If you want to delve further into the spooky yet wholesome story, however, then look no further than the official Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown interactive app.
Go apple bobbing with all the gang
Put together by Loud Crow Interactive, the app is essentially an interactive book which features digitally remastered illustrations, dialogue and music from the original special.
Narrated by Peter Robbins, the original voice of Charlie, the app also allows you to make your own Peanuts character and dress them up in a spooky costume for the holiday. There’s also a selection of Halloween-themed games, like pumpkin carving, bobbing for apples, and trick-or-treating with the Charlie and his pals, whole you also get a chance to play piano with Schroeder.
The book element features word and note highlighting to aid young readers and musicians, and you can hear individual words spoken by tapping them with a finger.
Much like its inspiration, it’s getting on a bit, having originally hit the App Store back in 2012, but it also shares the source material’s for holding up pretty well, offering a lovely nostalgic companion to the original animation as well as a nice distraction from all that candy your young ones may have collected during the holiday.
